Philippine Team Visits India Rubber Board

A 31-member team from the Philippines, headed by Regional Secretary Sakiran A. Hajan, Department of Trade & Industry, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DTI-ARMM), comprising government officials and private sectors visited the Rubber Board of India on March 24, Kottayam, India.


Mrs. Sheela Thomas (Chairman, Rubber Board) and Mrs. K.S. Savithri (Revenue District Officer , Kottayam) receiving the Philippine Rubber Mission led by DTI-ARMM Regional Secretary Sakiran A. Hajan at Rubber Research Institute of India. Dr. James Jacob (Director, RRII) and MR. Toms Joseph (Dy. Director, Economics) are also seen.

Rubber Board Chairperson Sheela Thomas received the team at the Rubber Research Institute. The team was accompanied by John Paul Inigo, Commercial Counsellor, and Maricel Bruce Paunickar, trade assistant of the Embassy of the Philippines in Delhi, India.

The team was treated to a presentation made by Chairperson Thomas on natural rubber scenario of India. Some other key members of the board also made their presentations on; research & technology on rubber growing, product development, and marketing concerns.

Aside from the presentations, the team also visited rubber laboratories, nurseries, and plantations that are already productive. They were given the opportunity to visit tire and wood factory of which rubber is the main raw material, and have seen the actual process of manufacturing.

Joining Secretary Hajan in the team were, DTI-ARMM Assistant Regional Secretary Abubacar Datumanong, DTI-IX Regional Director Sitti Amina Jain, local officials from rubber producing areas in the Philippines, and from private sectors
