DTI ARMM Sulu Conducts Consumer-Retailers Dialogue

The Department of Trade & Industry-ARMM Provincial Office in Sulu headed by Provincial Director Harrison A. Haron in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sulu conducted a dialogue last June 24 at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall with the consumers and retailers on recurring economic issues affecting the plight of the consumers and retailers such as undue price manipulation on the retail prices of consumer goods particularly during the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

Sitting in front of the participants during the Consumer-Retailers Dialogue held on June 24, in Jolo, Sulu were Vice-Mayor Edsir Q. Tan (Middle); Councilor Zed Tan (right), Chairman of Committee on Trade and Commerce and DTI-ARMM Sulu Consumer Welfare Coordinator Salasatul Kadil (Left).


The proper calibration of the Timbangan ng Bayan, the implementation of the Expanded Senior Citizen Act as well as the basic Consumer Rights and Responsibilities has likewise been tackled.

During the said dialogue, Vice Mayor Edsir Tan said that he truly has observed that prices of consumer goods are being sold at exorbitant rates thereby urging the DTI in Sulu to intensify its campaign efforts to curb price manipulation of basic and prime commodities.


Sulu Consumer Welfare Coordinator, Salasatul Kadil said that undue price manipulation is a grave offense under the Price Act and the Consumer Act of the Philippines, and so any violatation committed by any businessmen shall be reported immediately to the DTI Sulu office so it can be properly acted upon and be given the appropriate sanction.
